7.Treatment of waste materials
Current generation of msw (municipal solid waste) Incinerators produce ash with dangerous levels of dioxin and other toxics, and do not adequately treat off-gases. Because the flame of plasma arc torch reaches extremely high temperature it produces cleaner off-gases and only 1/5 th to 1/10 the quantity of ashes. Theses ashes have an obsidian rock-like appearance are nontoxic and do not leach. Besides, the Bordeaux, France msw ash treatment unit, several Japanese companies have already installed plasma systems to treat ash. Development work to directly burn msw with plasma is underway in the corporate sector.
